What it's like to study Criminology @ SGS College

Imagine securing 50% of your a level grade after only a year of studying...Criminology allows you to do this!

Criminology is a compelling subject covering many different types of crimes, a variety of case studies, theories behind criminality and more. It varies from other a level subjects as you have the opportunity to understand crime in society whilst also considering a criminals POV towards how and why they commit crime. 

@ SGS College you sit controlled assessments in December (2nd year) and January (1st year) where you are tested on your ability to write long formatted essays from notes obtained from class. In Year 1 your creative ability is also tested when you are required to make a campaign-for-change. This could appeal to students who prefer a more creative element to assessments. 

Criminology also takes the pressure off students as the course is separated into four units, which we are examined on over the 2 year period, instead of having to complete it all during the summer exams of year 2 when we are sitting other A-Levels. 

Our personal experiences of criminology:

Nicole - Upon reflection, as a second year student, I wish I had organised my time better for the controlled assessment, and prepared more practice questions to refer to as this would have saved me a lot less stress.

Katy - It is important to not get distracted by comparing how much you have written to others in the class- it is quality over quantity so don't worry if you have wrote less than your friends! 

Enola - It is beneficial to ask for guidance from your teachers before sitting the assessment, so that you feel the most prepared.
